Cool Specs is a throwback band from the land of Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi. This is music for fans of pop music before the field was overrun with beats and raps and dance music. It has its roots in the earliest days of rock nroll and features sounds that range from Chuck Berry, through the Beatles and up to and including Cheryl Crowe and Christina Aguilera. The albums original concept was born in a rock nroll protest made by the city fathers of Jersey City, NJ, who, because of a series of rock riots in 1956 and 57, decided to cancel a scheduled event at the longtime Jersey City baseball and football arena known as Roosevelt Stadium. The title song of the effort, Banned in Jersey City, is a new wave classic rocker that will forever make B.J. Berry, a one-term Jersey City mayor, infamous. If youre a Beatle fan, more than one cut should be right up your alley. You may have heard a song that includes the lyric are you goin to be in my dreams?, tonight. One cool speculation on that theme results in a catchy elaboration. A Prayer for Every Lonely Heart is a Paul McCartney-type ballad. And dont miss the bonus track, which could still be a hit single for a certain ex-mop top. A real homage to the 60s summer of love is the lush ballad called In This Day and Age. The same sentiment also blossoms to life in the closing affirmation, All Together. In an even more current mode, Cheryl Crowe and Christina Aguilera will have to slide over to make some room between them for superstar guest vocalist Lisa Bouchelle, who appears courtesy of Wet Duck and Varese Sarabande. Lisa first invites all listeners to join her in Havin A Good Time, then hits new vocal heights with the power ending of Always in My Heart.
